1. She was the wife of Greek pathologist Georgios Papanikolaou.

3. Andromachi Mavrogeni’s name was derived from her Greek name, Mary Mavrogeni.
4. During his life, Georgios Papanikolaou was a pioneer in medicine.
5. He developed a Pap smear procedure. This technique opened up a new field of study known as cytopathology.
